SHORT SYNOPSIS OF THE LAST 25 YEARS

LOCAL CHURCH PLANTING

In the past 25 years, we have planted a number of outreaches which had grown and are now operating independently. As we embark on planting churches, it was established that we wanted to build God’s kingdom as opposed to FGC’s kingdom, therefore we did not use FGC name for all the outreaches that were started. We wanted them to be the local church in that locality. So Tun Aminah came to being in early 1983, followed by Johor Jaya (which was later incorporated into the main church) in 1985. We assisted in planting churches in Layang-Layang and Simpang Rengam in 1986 and 1989 respectively. We ventured to Subang Jaya (1991) in Selangor and Pontian (1992). In 1994 we assisted in the commencement of two outreaches in Kuantan and Pekan Nenas respectively. As the Johor Bahru metropolis grew wider and larger, we ventured into Kulai in 1997 and Kota Masai in the year 2000. Since then we also started a Tamil congregation in Puteri Wangsa in 2002 and then Kota Tinggi was established four years ago. We continue to look for new areas for church planting as well as providing assistance to churches where practical and when requested. We want to build, strengthen and extend the Kingdom of Jesus – not our own kingdom!

OVERSEAS

Responding to invitations to minister overseas culminated to short term mission trips being organized there. In 1994, we assisted a Chinese Charismatic church in Indonesia. Later on we were to go on to other South East Asian countries. The Philippine Islands was one of the early places where short term mission exposure teams went forth to experience cross cultural missions. We are so glad that those seeds were sown and with the strong backing from the Church leadership, we have seen effective ministries being grown there, like Adopt a Child to School (ACTS) and Ministry Training School programs and now considering extending to other countries. We have been enlightened to see that, in many of these nations we go to, many people are in poverty. We realized that the good NEWS must go hand in hand with good WORKS, thereby giving strength to the programs like ACTS and poverty alleviation projects that will complement the sharing of the good news of Jesus! Initially we were targeting countries in SEA but the LORD appears to be stretching us further to the two most populous nations in the world. We are on the verge of sending a full time mission worker to a restricted access nation in the days ahead; while at the same time looking to reach an Unreached People Group in the northern part of a South Asian nation. In overseas missions, we mobilize our brothers and sisters to Go MAD (Make A Difference) as we encourage them to do what they can do in the simplest way possible to touch lives.
